Hi!
I’m Katie Blair Matthews, a wedding and advertising photographer based just outside Dunkeld in Highland Perthshire.
I’ve been pretty obsessed about photography since I was 16, and I love being able to say that my first paid job as a teenager was working in events photography. I’ve learned a thing or two since then, and in 2016 I graduated with a BA in Photography in Edinburgh, my native hometown.
I’ve always loved the craft of working in studios and playing with light - I spend half of my working life as a commercial photographer, creating product and lifestyle photography for the food and drink industry.
Whilst the technical craft behind photography has always been important in my work, I have always loved the power of storytelling through photography which is why I decided to become a wedding photographer following my first wedding in 2014. I love conveying happiness, connection and the essence of people through photography. The feeling of sharing photographic memories with people who have trusted me to capture a special day in their life is such an uplifting feeling!
Photography is more powerful when there’s a better connection between myself and those I’m photographing so I always love to get know the couples I work with.
I’m really terrible for nailing that “work-life balance” thing but when peeled away from all things photography you can find me pedalling on two wheels across the countryside or rock climbing. Nothing makes me more excited than food. A perfect evening to me is dancing to Jack White whilst baking triple chocolate brownies because honestly it’s chocolate that keeps me going…
My Approach
Weddings are full of emotions and moments of intimacy between lovers, friends and families. I love capturing all these beautiful little moments and creating a photographic narrative which best reflects the spirit of the day and all the work that went into it.
I work in a documentary style when photographing weddings, which means I photograph things as they happen, in an unobtrusive way, to create a realistic and honest photographic story of the day.
