Hi!
I’m Katie Blair Matthews, a wedding photographer based in Dunkeld, Highland Perthshire.
I’ve been pretty obsessed about photography since I was 16, and I love being able to say that my first paid job as a teenager was working in events photography. From there I was shooting music photography for rock bands in some of Edinburgh’s long gone club venues. I’ve learned a thing or two since then, and in 2016 I graduated with a first class BA in Photography in Edinburgh, my native hometown.
I have always loved the power of storytelling through photography and spent much of my uni degree looking through documentary photography books in the library. The beauty of conveying emotion through a carefully composed image is what made me decide to become a wedding photographer following my first wedding in 2014. I love conveying happiness, connection and the essence of people through my wedding work, as well as capturing all those finer details that help build the story.
My favourite kind of day is heading off into the hills on my bike or rock climbing with my friends. I’m a big foodie and I’m usually always thinking about my next meal! I find it pretty difficult to function without a daily dose of chocolate. My latest project is my garden where I’m trying to create my own wildlife paradise. So I can get a little overly interested in floral arrangements at weddings… I have a huge interest in photography histories and have spent time working in archives helping to digitise 20th century photography collections which offer a magnificent window into Scotland’s social history.
My Approach
Weddings are full of emotions and moments of intimacy between lovers, friends and families. I love capturing all these beautiful little moments and creating a photographic narrative which best reflects the spirit of the day and all the work that went into it.
I work in a documentary style when photographing weddings, which means I photograph things as they happen, in an unobtrusive way, to create a realistic and honest photographic story of the day.
Booking a photographer is all about connection, if you think we’d work well together, say hello! I'm more than happy to answer any questions.
